The ‘How Many’ Game
I had a great time swapping travelling stories with a cool Britt (Steve) I met at a cafe in Cusco. During our conversation, he asked me how many countries I had been to. I honestly couldn’t answer - I had never counted.
That fact actually took me by surprise since I’m a fanatical list maker and obsessive traveller and planner - how could I not know how many different countries I’ve been to? I’m used to the question of “where to next?” and I usually have a short list of hopeful next places to chat about - but I had never been asked my total past count.
Steve suggested it is a great time filler during a long airport layover. With a lot of time to kill, not only can you count the countries you’ve visited (not including your home country), but also the more difficult task of counting how many different airports you’ve landed at.
I did a my country count and I think I’m at nineteen - including Peru. I’ll have to verify with my map at home to make sure I didn’t miss anything ![]()
Note: I decided to only count countries I travelled to as an adult.
The airport count will be a little more challenging, I have eight visited airports in California alone!
With over nine hours to kill in the Lima airport, I started counting. But I suspect the final number will have to wait until I’m stuck in an airport with nothing to do again - hopefully not anytime soon.
